  • एक ख़्वाहिश

    एक ख़्वाहिश मेरे मन की —
    बारिश हो… और तुम।

    घबराई-हुई-सी एक साँस,
    जो तुम्हारी धड़कनों से टकराकर
    अपनी रफ़्तार भूल जाए;
    कंधा मेरा हो… और सिर तेरा,
    जैसे थककर तुमने दुनिया छोड़ दी हो।

    तुम और मैं —
    एक भी, दो भी;
    भीगते हुए तुम्हारे बाल,
    और मेरे हाथ…
    जो उन्हें सुलझाते-सुलझाते
    तुममें ही उलझ जाएँ।

    वक़्त का पता हो भी… और नहीं भी;
    हर पल ठहरता हुआ,
    हर लम्हा फिसलता हुआ;
    जुस्तजू हो दिल की क़रीबी की,
    हर कोशिश — तुम्हें जानने की,
    और उसी में, अपने दिल को पहचानने की।

    दुनिया से कहीं दूर,
    तुममें यूँ खो जाने की,
    कि लौटने का रास्ता भी याद न रहे।

    ख़लिश हो… तेरे पास आने की,
    और डर भी — कि ये दूरी कहीं हमेशा की न हो जाए;
    डरते हुए तेरा हाथ पकड़ने की,
    जैसे छूट गया, तो सब कुछ बिखर जाएगा।

    तुझे खो देने की बेचैनी भी,
    तुझे पा लेने की बेबसी भी;
    तुझे भूल जाने की हर कोशिश,
    और हर कोशिश में, तुझे और गहराई से पा लेना।

    तेरे लिए ख़ुद को भूल जाने की,
    और उस भूल में, ख़ुद को पहली बार पा लेने की।

    दुनिया को छोड़ देने की;
    तेरे लिए गीत नहीं… अपनी ख़ामोशी तक गुनगुनाने की;
    तेरे लिए कुछ नहीं… सब कुछ कर जाने की।

    और फिर… उस सब के बाद भी,
    एक अधूरी-सी तड़प के साथ —
    फिर एक बार नहीं, हर बार,
    तुझसे प्यार करने की।

  • A Step of Life

    In the wilderness of endless graze,
    I see how small I have been.
    Not above the earth or sky,
    but a fragment in the wheel of time,
    a step belonging to the order of all things.

    In the savanna filled with grass,
    I seek myself beyond my eyes.
    The truer self is not this body,
    but the breath that stirs in all —
    I am the wild, and the wild is me.

    Everywhere I look, Mother Nature,
    woven threads of leaf and lion.
    Who am I to worry for myself?
    I am only a strand in the vast fabric,
    a hum of life that sings in chorus.

    Life hides beyond my sight,
    its “why” veiled in silence.
    All I know: the journey is brief,
    a step aside on a winding road —
    yet in this fleeting moment, I am alive.

  • Most Are About You

    I am a thunder of thoughts:
    some are worrying me,
    a few are caressing me,
    but most are about you…

    I am a sea of tides:
    some are touching me,
    a few are off-shoring me,
    but most are calling me toward you…

    I am a wind of swifts:
    some are drifting me apart,
    some are depriving me of you,
    but most are sweeping me to you…

    I am the one of many things:
    some I want to say to you,
    some I want to be understood,
    but most I want to hear from you…

    I am just a word in the dictionary:
    some are about love,
    some are about hate,
    but most, for me, are about you.

  • Under This Night

    Me, myself, you, and the night —
    I will address my love to myself, and so will you;
    I will call to the moon, longing for your embrace,
    and walk down a few steps, to hear your voice in my heart, only.
    No matter how far I have to go,
    or whether I may not move even a step —
    today, I will walk with you, and me, alone,
    under this night, forever and ever.

  • Jealous of Your Smile

    Nature is jealous of your smile,
    the sky is blind to see your shine,
    the wind is bound to drive your hair,
    and time is flowing slowly —
    just to keep your smile.

  • Colourful Night

    Like a night full of light,
    scattered raindrops all over;
    a skeptic moon under a dark cloud,
    and a breeze of wind over my skin.

    A fallen-apart rain of hope,
    running short of you;
    though whispering, alone, at night —
    through the end, we reach the start.

    From the far sky, I see a ray:
    a moment of life,
    a second of joy,
    and the hope of the new;
    artistically playing a game of hide-and-seek —
    sometimes my dreams,
    and the queen of the night: you, the moon.

    A long way to go, still, to reach;
    but beauty lies everywhere I go,
    hidden beneath the clouds, or in your shine;
    and I see you, laughing at me, and at my lonely night — with you, or without.

  • Moon and You

    It hides in the hue,
    to tell I am not with you;
    and it shines anew,
    to tell I am not from you.

    It seeks the light of another,
    to glitter the night for you;
    it moves swiftly,
    to tell the beloved of love.

    It stands till dawn,
    to let you sleep in his arms;
    it ushers in a new day,
    to believe in the existence of you;
    it watches all night —
    silent, and a sign of you.

  • Around Me

    Thundering clouds, drowning day and lightning night —
    I wonder what is up in the sky.

    A feeble sound, chirping birds, trees greener than ever —
    I find my mirror in these.

    A drifting river, crossing seas, memoirs dissolving along the current —
    I put myself in, to forget anything.

    Feeding mammals, loving bees, the morning rooster —
    I find a shot of words to describe all these.

    Over the wire, on top of the roof, on the flooded road —
    I find a true likeness of you.

    Dense mangrove fields, still life, and a murmuring —
    the love of you, and of life.

    Today or tomorrow, love or hate —
    I find my peace, in you.

  • Treasure

    Stars hide away, beneath the far dark night;
    we look around in a daze, and find a shine all around.
    Beyond the bridge lies an angel, smiling, abated;
    to reach, to go, far away, where she hides her smile.

    Day and night all pass away alike, outshining every pursuit,
    to the untravelled path, and the inland depth of the sea.
    Someday alone, or accompanied by a cry — but through;
    and the morning calls, for treasure, at this time.

  • Every Time

    And I see her every time
    I close my eyes;
    I hear someone whispering of love,
    I see the bird, and the sky.

    I see her every time
    I see nature smiling,
    a mother caressing her child,
    a father holding his daughter.

    And I see her every time
    it is raining;
    I see how the cloud takes over the sky,
    I see time clicking away.

    And I see her every time —
    when I think of love,
    when I dream of life,
    when I feel myself lucky.

    And I see her every time… life.
